Mr.Zebra and the Uncharted island

Assignment: Write a biography of a chivalrous zebra who is shipwrecked on a desert island

Through my little hole, I could see humans flailing about, water gushing on to the deck, thunder and rain soaring across the sky . It seems we had just moved in a very bad monsoon. I am a zebra who works in a carnival. Me and my other zebra friends have to go around in circle, into hoop, and over the circus director for the finale. I who was once the lead zebra burnt my hind leg while going into the hoop of fire. After the incident I could only limp.

*sigh* BAAM!!!

a thunderous wave hit the ship and I was knocked unconscious when I woke up, I was on a beautiful island . So I grazed and grazed and lived happily until I came across a beautiful pond with millions of fish but I wasn't thirsty. So I came back at night but all the fish were gone but I drank. My mistake, I felt it immediately the water was too acidic. But when the circus people came

 it was already too late.

"Ring on the Side Walk" Sample Answers

for 10 points-

Response is not developed, ideas are limited on how to return the ring (eg. .. i was walking to Rabba... I looked down and saw a ring.. I was really concerned.. I FOUND THEM!...) Supporting details are limited (e.g... initials that said "C.B + S.B" ... went through yellow Pages.. the address is "197 pine grovedr"...) Response has a limited relationship to the assigned task.

for 20 points

Response is minimally developed with simple ideas on how to find the ring's owner (e.g... I was walking in the park and i found a ring on the group.. I went for a closer look... went to all the people's houses that had the initials ZC.. the owner went to a town abit farther away, so I woke up really early.. and found her) and simple supporting details (e.g... saw that there initials on it. "ZC" was engraved in the front.). Organization is minimal with weak links between ideas (e.g One time I remember.. So I picked it up.. So I went home.. It took me days.. But the last door.. and went to the address and returned it.. and after she gave me...).
Response is partly related to teh assigned task.

30 points

Response has a clear focus and is adequately developed with ideas on finding the ring's owner (eg... pulled the ring tout of the crack.. I spotted something engraved on the inside... I can finally get the extra 100 dollars I need to buy the Ipod I want or I can return the ring.. I wouldn't be that hard.. I finally gave up... it was his all along.) and supporting details (e.g .. it was a beautiful white ring with gold circling the top and bottom of the ring... "BM" that's what the engravings said.. it said " if found please return to 1486 rid rd costa rica..." the initials were BM Ben McG..... and 1586 Rid rd that was my grand fathers address....._ Organization is simple with adequate links between ideas (e.g... I was walking.. I saw something.. I walked over... I tried pulling.. I through to my self I through and I thought and fianlly came to a conclusion.. Then I was on my way... we finally go there.. as we drove ... When we go to house...   I returned the ring and had a popsicle.) Response is clearly related to the assigned task.

for 40 points-

Response has a clear focus and is well-developed with sufficient ideas about how to find the ring's owner ( eg,... I saw the most beautiful ring ever!... I knew it was bad, but I wanted to keep it... it was their fault, he/she lost this... they should've been more responsible.. I could sell it and get alot of money or keep it until I get marry... problem was, that my initials aren't LB... I heard this loud snobbing sound.. I asked what is wrong... I asked what is your name? I think about the initials L.B.. I just had to give it to her... I was still sad to see it go...) and relevant supporting details (e.g... it was shing.. so bright.. it wasnt some plastic ring you get claire's was gold; real gold! this girl look, so helpless... it has my initials L.B in fancy letters, in silver too...). Organization is logical with effective links between ideas (e.g One time... I rane up to it... When I picked it up.. I then think ... What were the chances of the owner finding it... when I was walking... I sat beside on the bench... As much as I wanted to keep it... I know I did the right thing...) Response has a thorough relantionship to the assigned task.

"Ring on the Side Walk" Varun answer

Today was my violin class. I had to go by myself. I knew the route but I felt unsafe. While walking I stepped on something hard. I didn't know what it was so I looked down and I saw a gold ring! I thought I hit the jackpot, I could sell this at a jewerly store but after closely insepting it. It had the Initials of someone. Disapointed I walked to the police station but still admiring it. While walking a police officer saw me and told me to stop, I stoped. He said I was under arest for theft. I told him he must have been mistaken but he replied "that's what the last person said", Still confused and worrying about my class I went to the police station. The police chef seeing the ring told me to give it back and I did. But at the last moment I told him everything and thankfully he belived me. After the mess I went back to my violin class just in to find out that it was over but I still needed to do the class and when I came back I had to explain it all to my parents. Then they received a phone call from the police saying that I have found the police chef's ring and that he had dropped it while going to work.

The Reindeer

In little creek woods a lumber jack went out to chop wood. Because there were no cars reindeer was the only way to travel.  While he was cutting down trees he left his reindeer at the forest. He was too tired and so he walked home forgetting about his reindeer. His reindeer who was tied to a tree had no way out. So he convinced the squirrel to nibble on the rope. It was getting dark so the reindeer started to run home. While running he fell into a hole. The lumber jack just remembered about the reindeer so he started to look for his reindeer. While getting out his leg got stuck. Hopefully nearby rabbit came to help him. He got out and found out that his house was very close by. But when he returned his master was gone and locked his shed so the reindeer waited for hour until finally his master came back looking depressed. When his master saw him he was very delighted to see him. So they both lived happily ever after.

Brave Writer Pg 46-66

Teacher,

I went through the the first chapter that there are three important things Narration, copy work, and dictation

Brave writers jungle is about training kids to write. It starts off in the beginning where he teaches his daughter to write. She writes to her grandmother and learn how to read.So he decided the he will Teach other how to read.

i am writing here all the places where the narration is said

Narration is a skill. Quality retelling doesn't come naturally. Certainly the inclination to narrate is natural.  pg 47

Especially that funny part was so, well, uh, weird. Yeah, it was awesome;you gotta rent that movie…” This little example is not narration.  pg 48

Many of you know the famous British educator of the early Charlottesville Mason. Her educational philosophy develops good thinkers who will eventually write well. She advocates the practice of narration. pg 48

Our children need opportunities to teach back to us what they learn, observe, discover and experience and they need lots of access to us in all kinds of settings to do it. (Yes, even in the shower. But I do draw the line when I'm in the bath tub…) Don’t look at narration as a tiresome exer-cise to be drummed out of your kids on command only during school hours. pg 48

It’s tough, especially when you don’t care about the subject yourself. But realize this: when your kids care, they do a better job of narrating and work harder to do it well. pg 48

review of brave writers from kathy duffy

In the first chapter, Bogart develops her ideas by urging parents/teachers to provide children with a language-rich environment as the nourishment they need to develop their own writing abilities. Narration, copy work, and dictation are tools familiar to Charlotte Mason fans that Bogart uses to develop skills at the basic level. She explains, “ I believe that early elementary writing programs are a bit silly. The number one priority of a writing program for kids under 12 should be to guard their enjoyment of writing. If you succeed in keeping them interested and willing, you’ll have given them a wonderful gift.” Bogart believes this can be accomplished by having young children do less of their original writing and, instead, have them spend time interacting with “writing that’s already written” (p. 6). So she provides concrete procedures and techniques for doing so along with practical advice on scheduling and assessment.

The Secret Vault

May 14,Thursday,2014

It was a normal day for me. As I am a gardener for a wealthy family living on the
corner of the street. I was just planting some rose bushes when I came across
A note which said "I HAVE HIDDEN Rose Overs Sherbet  MONEY Every S OUNCE OF
IT IN THE****************************"
the rest was blacked out and so I couldn't
read it.

*one hour later*

I found out the trick! Rose Overs Sherbet and Every S means roses and there
was only one rose bush in the whole place. So after I checked the rose bush carefully
I found a secret tunnel

*more hours later*

The tunnel was damp and moist. It had very bad drawings on the walls. After walking a
long way I found a metal door. When I opened it there was so much money it
could make me a millionaire. With that money I got a good job in business!

how to write a poem

Writing a poem is all about seeing the world around you. A poem can be about anything, from a mouldy sandwich to a rusty chainsaw . Writing poetry can help you become more expressive and improve your linguistic style. However, if you're not used to writing poetry, you may be at a loss as to where to start. Poetry writing is a skill that improves with practice (just like any other type of writing).

here is a sample poem:
Fire                                    1. think of a topic
Beside a flame                         2.  write a poem
burning desire                          3.  if you want you can make it rhyme
tip: don't make to long or too short
inspiration
tongue of fire

smoldering on a
winters night

Warming sensation
glowing delight

impulsive reactions
coming in play

Smothering flames
gone the next day.

One Of My Favourite Books

The 39 Clues           By: Rick Ridoran

The 39 clues is about two kids. Amy and Dan Cahil, whose parents died in a fire caused by other Cahils. Amy and Dan escaped the fire and met their uncle Flyn. Flyn told them that their family [ the Cahils ] had a long going war.

Long ago, Gildan Cahil was working on serum that made you super powerful if you drank it. But Damien Vesper wanted the serum for himself so he attacked and burned down his house. But before he died he gave his sons and daughters each a potion: Thomas whose potion made whoever drank it stronger and athletic, Luke whose potion made him better at assassination and trickery, Jane whose potion made her better at arts, Ecaterina whose potion made her smarter. Later Madrigal was born but she didn't get any serum. They all had descendants who also got the effects of the potion.

They found out that some people got some of the 39 ingredients of the ultimate potion.Amy and Dan parents had one of those ingredients so they were attacked. Isabelle Kabra captured every one of the cahil members except herself and forced them to give her the ingredients to the ultimate potion but before she drank the potion, she was stopped. Then all the familys allow peace.

An awesome invention

I just invented an space ship that can travel at the speed of light. There may be some nasty side effects but for now don't  worry about it. With this technology we can see if aliens exist. The galaxy is before us !

The ship can travel at the speed of light. The ship can travel the fast because of an new substance called linite. Linite is made by combining highly radioactive toxic waste together to make a never ending supply
of energy. With this we will have energy and not have to worry about fossil fuels any more.

While you are flying at the speed of light some nasty things can happen. For example nausea, vomiting, head aches, unknown side effects, and so much more I can't explain it all in one essay. But even so with this we can find out if aliens exist.Maybe even another earth but no humans. We can gets some minerals like iron from asteroids too.

my favourite book

ONE  PIECE

My favourite book is one piece. It is my favourite book because it is very funny. It is about a kid named Monkey D. Luffy who wants to be king of pirates and ate a devil fruit which turned him into a rubber man.A devil fruit is a weird looking fruit that tastes really really bad and give you a power in exchange for not letting you swim.If you sell it it would cost 100,000,000,000  berries [ the currency there]

Luffy favourite food is meat. He will do all most anything for meat and he really dumb but really strong. One part in the book fish man island was under attack [ an island under sea with fish men ] and a fish man named Jimbei  tried to convince him to follow his plan but luffy's answer was " talk in a meat perceptive, hero give meat to the poor , pirates take meat and have parties with it , but I want to eat meat."

In his world there are three types of people [ except regular people] Marines, Revolutionaries, And Pirates.
luffy grandfather was the head of the marines, a group of people who seek justice in the world [cops]. Luffy's dad is the leader of the revolutionaries and is the most wanted man in the world [rebels]. Luffy is a pirate who seeks one piece and if you find one piece you become the king of pirates.

So in conclusion one piece is my favourite series of books. It can't chose one signal because there are more than 60 books of it.So it is my favourite book.

Finding a cave inside a tree

One day while I was my mom told me to do the shopping after I finish playing with my friends. Not the best thing but it was the first time for me going alone. We played soccer and we we're winning Vishy was our goalie and Munaaf was theirs. The score was 3-1 and they we close to the net. Wasif shot but missed.

We saw it  go past a tree but then disappeared before going past the tree. It was strange because the tree was alone and there was noting but grass around it.We saw not too small hole in the tree

"Maybe it went in there" I said
"that's right genius" answered Hasain
"looks clean to me" said Vishy
"How do we get back out then?" asked  Sintugan
" there's steps" said Munaaf

Inside the tree there were stair like I mean proper stairs. The tunnel was damp and soggy. Our foots steps echoed loud in the cave.

10 million hours later

We finally got out our soccer and a treasure chest. We were excited. When we opened the chest we found a note

------------------------------------
you did this all for nothing-----------
------------------------------------

"way to ruin our day" I said and threw it into the river never to be found again.

Oh, the shopping...

Astra Zenaca

The Astra Zenaca  is in the Ontario science centre. It is on the sixth floor. It has 55 exhibits.
So it's fun.

The sixth floor has Astra Zenaca. It also has the exhibitions place and the paper air plane place. In the paper air plane place you can make paper air planes, play on the piano, and make your own shoe out of card board. I only found out that that was there two years ago.

Astra Zenaca has many exhibits. 55 to be exact. One is a tank simulation [kind of] of a diver diving down to 655 ft and making a world record. It also has tanks of fluorescent Zebra fish that demonstrates how humans inherit traits from their parents. It even has skeletons and organ of human bodies. So it is very interesting.

So in conclusion Astra Zenaca is good. It has many exhibits. It is on my favourite floor. It is also in my favourite place the Ontario Science Centre.

land mark I have been to

One landmark I have been to is the Ontario Science Centre. The Centre has many attractions. There are many things to do there like watching the cinema, and playing with paper airplanes. There are exhibitions in the bottom floor .In the second floor there is the space place and kid places. The 6th floor has Astra Zeneca were you can learn about life.

The exhibition that is currently running is ``the science of rock and roll``. In the exhibition there are drums, a recorder, the guitar, the piano, drum machines, and there are spots were they talk about some bands of musicians. There also was an exhibition were they put some old-fashioned games on display which was my favorite part. Beside the exhibitions they were places where you   can make paper air planes and glue cardboard to make your own creation. And opposite to that there is Astra Zeneca where there are models of elephant hearts and lungs models. There was a driving simulation but they removed it.

The second floor has kids places where:
·        You can play with dams and magnetic fishing poles
·        You can fill in play bricks in a life sized house
·        Mini caves with picture of cave dwelling animals

There is also a cinema. It has approximately 250o  degree angle of the screen and it’s huge!!!! They play educational movies like UNDER THE SEA. Under the sea shows life in the ocean. They always add new movies to the IMAX and they are all well directed. The library gives free tickets in the early morning but some time they don’t have the tickets.

So in conclusion the Ontario Science Centre is a very good place. It has a kids place. It has a pre-teen/teen/grown-up place. It even has a cinema to watch movies in. I am really happy that I have such a place in my neighbourhood.
